Reina China Panama 2006 (Chinese Beauty Pageant) Part 3
The Reina China event, a beauty pageant held this past Saturday at the Hotel & Casino Venetto, gave us the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate a bit of Chinese culture here in Panama. Panama’s Chinese Youth Association has managed to organize an event like no other, with a variety of participants, and with an atmosphere of enthusiasm that was contagious.
In Part 1 and Part 2, we saw how the event kicked off to a World Cup theme, and ended with the contestants showing their stuff in casual wear. We’ll begin Part 3 with the beautiful Chopstick Girls.
El evento de la Reina China, que tuvo lugar el Sábado pasado en el Hotel Casino Venetto, nos dió la oportunidad de disfrutar y apreciar un poco de la cultura China aqui en Panamá. La Asociación de Jóvenes Chinos de Panamá ha logrado organizar este evento como ninguno, con una variedad de participantes, y con una atmósfera de entuisiasmo muy contagioso.
En la Primera Parte y la Segunda Parte, mostramos como el evento arrancó con el tema del Mundial y terminó con las concursantes mostrando su belleza en ropa casual. Ahora, empezaremos la tercera parte con las hermosas Chicas de los Palitos Chinos.
The Chopstick Girls were part of a chinese dance group from the Centro Cultural Chino Panameño or Chinese Panamanian Cultural Center.
La Chicas de los Palitos Chinos forman parte del grupo de Danza China del Centro Cultural Chino Panameño.
The girls clicked the chopsticks in rythmn to the music while smiling and dancing.
Las chicas hacian “clic” con sus palitos chinos mientras sonrian y bailaban.
I went home and tried clicking two pencils together in rythmn to some music. Trust me, it is a lot harder than it looks.
Al regresar a mi casa, yo intenté hacer clic con dos lápices juntos al ritmo de la música. Creanme cuando les digo que hacer clic con los palitos chinos, es más difícil de lo que realmente aparece.
Now, put another set of pencils in the other hand and try to click. You can see this dance takes some talent.
Ahora, intenta poner otro par de lápices en la otra mano y trata de hacer clic. La verdad es que si lo piensas, notarás que este baile require muchísimo talento.
The Feather Fan girls were next up on the stage. They must have been quite a sight. I was, unfortunately, behind a large group of people who stood up to stretch and started talking. I was able to snap these few photos.
Habia otro grupo de chicas que tenian abanicos de plumas y se encotraban próximas a la tarima. Creo que este era una buena presentación. Desafortunadamente, yo estaba detras de un grupo de personas que se levantaron de sus puestos, se acerdaron y se pusieron a hablar. Capté estas pocas fotos con algo de dificultad.
The segment ended with a singer named Cynthia Wong, who sang in a mix of English, Chinese, and Spanish. Her performance, along with the Yo-yo boys, helped to set the mood for the next part of the event. That will be coming up next in Part 4, the Evening Gown portion of the competition.
Esta parte culminó con la presentacioón de una cantante llamada Cynthia Wong, la cual interpretó una canción mezclando los idiomas Inglés, Chino y Español. Su actuación, junto a los Chicos con Yo-yo’s, dió el tiempo preciso para preparar la escenografía de la próxima parte del evento. Esta sería la próxima parte de la competencia, la presentación de las concursantes en Traje de Noche, cual describiré en la Cuarta Parte.

Hahaha, I never knew that you can dance with chopsticks and make music out of it? Always thought chopsticks were for eating and catching flies.
